Wakio Oyanagi (U Kansai, Japan): Trends in the Utilization of Advanced Technologies and Educational Data in Japanese School Education

In the context of utilizing cutting-edge technologies and educational data in education, what purposes have driven the implementation of AI and generative AI in school educational activities and classroom instruction? What initiatives have been undertaken in teacher training related to AI and generative AI? What challenges have emerged? Here, we will proceed by addressing the following five points:

1) Recent examples of projects promoted by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) on utilizing cutting-edge technology and educational data
2) Content of national guidelines regarding the educational use of generative AI
3) What initiatives are being undertaken in teacher training related to generative AI
4) How AI and generative AI are beginning to be utilized in school educational activities and classroom instruction
5) What challenges are being identified through practical implementation

Prof. Oynagi from Japan: Guest Researcher ar Learning Lab

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Oyanagi to the Learning Lab! He is Professor of Educational Technology at the Faculty of Informatics at Kansai University in Osaka (Japan) and will be conducting research at UDE for one year. During his stay at the Learning Lab, he intends to translate Michael Kerres’s writings on media didactics into Japanese and to engage with the cultural conditions and backgrounds of digital learning in Germany. His research focuses on the digital transformation of schools and the required competences of teachers.
